Hi Michelle,
Great question-I hear very similar questions all of the time. My advice to you would be the same I give to a lot of our customers. If it isn't broke don't fix it. When a dog is having food related issues it can be very difficult to isolate the root problem. It your dog has an allergy issue, it can take quite some time (and money) to find a food that is gentle on your dogs delicate systems. Since it seems you have resolved the issue I wouldn't veer from the course. Grandma Lucy's makes a great product and if your dog is happy on the food, I would stick with that.

Hello Tom,
Thanks for the kind words and for choosing to order from our site! At Fido we try to stock as many American made holistic treats as we feel we can support. Our policy is if we wouldn't give it to our own dogs then we won't sell it.

Hey Ricky!
Nice to hear from you again! You must have been reading my mind; I was going to write an article about this very topic. All Honest Kitchen food is great. However, if money is a concern I would go with Honest Kitchen Keen. It is the least expensive in their food line but is packed with the same nutritional benefits as their other food.

My Dog is Allergic but hungry...

Hi Matt, great questions and answers here. I've read a lot of your posts and finally have a question to ask you myself. My labrador is about 9 months old and had some bad infections in his ears. He is now on a food trial so we can determine if it is some sort of food allergy. He is only allowed to eat Hill's Science Diet z/d Ultra Allergen free food and nothing else. He likes the food just fine (my wallet hates it) but he is a young lab and loves to chew. I can't seem to find anything that he likes that is allegen free that he can chew on.

Marge, you are certainly spot-on with your curiosity of why you find kelp in dog treats. Kelp, more commonly known as seaweed or algae, is present in your pet’s food because of its vast health and nutritional value. Due to its many healing and holistic properties, kelp is considered a “super food”, much like pumpkin and blueberries. Digestion and natural detoxification are often listed as benefits of this plant. In addition to internal benefits, kelp is believed to improve dull coats, heal dry and flaky skin, and diminish doggie breath.

What exactly makes a puppy treat a puppy treat?

Peggy, I can completely relate to your confusion because in addition to learning about all these exciting new products, I also get to figure out where to fit them into an ever-crowded dog treat aisle in my family’s store. Let me preface my answer by acknowledging that the definition for "puppy treat" is wide open. For instance, an owner can use the dog’s daily kibble to entice their pet. In addition, giving your pooch either a puppy treat or regular treat serves the same function and neither will harm your dog in any manner.

Many dogs suffer from digestive issues, causing discomfort for both pets and their owners. There are numerous possible sources of stomach and intestinal problems, including poor diet, food allergies, stress and anxiety. While several products exist on the market that are designed to help with such problems, I usually recommend Animal Essentials’ Plant Enzymes and Probiotics as the best treatment.

How Do I Give A Pill To My Dog?

Many dog owners have toiled with the difficult routine of opening their dog’s mouth, placing a pill behind the hump in the tongue, massaging the throat, etc. Sometimes this effort yields only a discarded tablet later found on the floor.

Homemade Dog Treats That Keep Your Dog Cool

Hi Carlita, as we all know the summer heat can push both people and our dogs to unwelcome levels of sweltering misery. Of course, it is important to keep dogs inside and sheltered during the peak summer heat to prevent the canine equivalent of heat exhaustion. There are different frozen dog treats that we can give our pets to help them stay cool. First off, keep in mind that ice cream is not good for dogs so avoid the temptation to give Rufus a soft serve cone.
