Grain Free Dog Treats-What We Learn From Meeting Dog Owners

As I previously posted, Fido Dog Treats recently set up shop at an AKC sanctioned and benched dog show. Although we were positioned as vendors, we were not selling anything at this show. Instead, we were spreading the word about our company with an emphasis on a several key points. We discussed our desire to be the vanguard of canine nutrition through the sale of the very best all natural, holistic and organic dog treats. We talked to show attendees about our continued focus on American made dog chews and biscuits. Although not everything that we sell is made in the USA, the large majority of our products are.
As an online shop we have to make a greater effort than traditional retailers to have direct contact with dog owners. Shows such as this are one way that we can engage caring, passionate canine care-takers. Retailers often only want to sell and boost their bottom lines, without listening to the consumers' needs At Fido we truly learn when we listen to the people on the other side of the computerized checkout line.
We never know what to expect when engaged in dog treat chat but one point of interest kept coming up through out the weekend...the need for grain-free dog treats. It seems that there are many different reasons why people put their dogs on a grain free diet. Corn had long ago been banished from the ingredient lists of premium dog foods and treats. Corn is known to be highly undigestible when consumed by dogs and it is considered to primarily be a "filler" with little nutritional value. It is also a main culprit in the diets of dogs with skin and coat allergies. As a result of this, higher-grade foods and treats typically feature brown or whole-grain rice as a source of carbohydrates. Although most dogs will live a long, healthy life while eating a diet consisting of both protein and grain, many dogs develop grain allergies over time. As our knowledge of canine nutrition continues to expand, the availability of grain-free dog treats grows as well. Many manufacturers are now making both vegetarian and non-vegetarian grain-free dog treats with ingredients that range from sweet potatoes and papayas all the way to 100% meat based jerky treats.
